The mission of End Homelessness St. John’s (EHSJ) is to ensure that everyone in St. John’s has a place to call home. Many of our vulnerable neighbours rely on the rental market for housing, but have trouble maintaining housing stability on their own. Homelessness or risk of homelessness is often the result.
All EHSJ initiatives, including HomeConnect, are based on the Housing First philosophy – that everyone deserves a home and that people are better able to move forward with their lives if they are housed first.
HomeConnect is an online housing inventory bringing together landlords and tenants, supported by EHSJ and our housing and homeless-serving community partners.HomeConnect creates successful tenancies by identifying and reducing barriers to housing stability and ensuring supports are in place.
HomeConnect is made possible through the partnership and commitment of the stakeholders involved:
- Tenants – Individuals and families that rely on the rental market for housing
- Landlords – Individuals and companies that own and/or manage residential properties for rent
- Homeless-serving agencies – Community and public agencies that provide supports to clients to maintain housing stability
One thing that all these stakeholders have in common is that they all benefit from successful tenancies. EHSJ’s role in HomeConnect is to provide stakeholders with the connections, tools and resources to enable successful tenancies.
